01Upload pictures and videos
In the admin, open Media.
In the left column, open the folder the files should go to. If All files is open, they go to the Root folder.
Drag the files onto the box Drop files here or click to choose, or click the box and choose them. You can add several files at once.
| File | Formats | Largest file |
|---|---|---|
| Pictures | PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, SVG | 8 MB |
| Videos | MP4, WebM, MOV | 50 MB |
Husly checks what is inside the file, not only its name. An SVG file is cleaned of scripts before it is saved.
HEIC photos, the format of many iPhone photos, are not accepted. Save them as JPG first.
Documents such as PDF or Word files cannot be added to the library.
If your site has them, the left column also shows Stock media, Canva and Generate with AI. A file you take from there lands in the library too.
After the upload, Husly makes lighter WebP copies of JPG and PNG pictures, in full size and in smaller widths. Your site shows visitors the lighter copy. SVG and GIF files stay as they are.
02Sort files into folders
Folders keep the library in order, for example one folder for products and one for your team.
New folder: press the folder icon next to Media at the top of the left column. Type the Folder name with a slash in front, for example
/products, and press Create.Rename: point at the folder and press the pencil.
Delete folder: point at the folder and press the bin. The files in it are not deleted. They move to the Root folder.
To move a file, drag it onto a folder in the left column. To move many files at once, select them, press Move and choose the Target folder.
To select a file, tick the round box in its corner. Hold Shift and click another file to select every file in between.
03Use them on your pages
In the page editor, the side panel has a Media tab with the pictures from your library. You can search them and choose a folder.
Click a picture to add it to the page as a new image section.
Drag a picture onto the page to choose the place yourself.
Drop it on a picture that is already on the page to swap that picture.
A picture field in a section's settings works too. Press Pick image and the window Pick from media library opens with the same folders and files. Pick a file there, or press Upload to add a new one. Change puts another picture in its place, and Remove empties the field.
Click a picture in Media. Under Used in, the panel lists the pages, blog posts, menus, restore points and other places that use it. Each line opens that place.
04Alt text and other details
Click a picture in Media to open its details on the right. You see its Type, Size, Dimensions and Folder, and its address with a copy button.
Under SEO & accessibility there are three fields, one set for each language of your site:
Title: a short name for the picture.
Alt text: what the picture shows, in one sentence. Screen readers read it out to people who cannot see the picture.
Description: longer background about the picture.
Choose the language with the tabs above the fields, write the texts and press Save changes.
A picture on a page has its own Alt text field in the section's settings, and the page uses that one. When you add a picture from the editor's Media tab, Husly copies the library's alt text into that field if it is still empty in the language you are editing. Text you wrote there yourself stays.
05Delete files and the trash
One file: point at it and press the bin, or open it and press the red bin Delete file. Husly asks Delete file? before the file goes.
Many files: select them and press Delete. Before you confirm, Husly tells you how many of them are still in use.
Look at Used in before you delete. A page that still uses a deleted file can be left with a broken picture.
What happens next depends on your restore points:
If no restore point holds the file, it is deleted for good at once.
If a restore point holds it, the file leaves the library but stays in the Trash. Otherwise that restore point would bring your site back with broken pictures. The file goes by itself when the last restore point that holds it expires.
While the trash holds files, the top bar of Media shows a Trash button with their size. In the trash, each file has a label:
A restore point holds it: the file waits for that restore point.
Releasing: nothing holds the file any more. A button such as Release 3 files removes these files now.
Delete permanently removes a file for good at once. A restore point that held it will bring back an empty spot instead.
The trash has no button that puts a file back. To get a deleted file back, go back to a restore point that holds it, in Settings -> Restore points. A restore point brings back the whole site as it was then, not only the file.
06Storage
Every site has its own storage, and its size depends on your plan. The pricing page shows the plans.
Four things count towards it:
The files in your media library.
The files in the trash.
The restore points themselves.
Files that visitors send with your forms.
The Storage bar at the top of Media shows how much is used. Settings -> Usage shows the same under Storage.
A new upload stops with the message Storage limit reached - delete some files or upgrade your plan. Make room in one of these ways:
Press Unused in Media. Husly lists the files that nothing on your site and no restore point uses, and how much room deleting them would free. Show all takes you back.
Open the trash and release what can go.
Delete restore points you no longer need in Settings -> Restore points. Files in the trash that only those points held go with them.
Move to a bigger plan. See Plan and billing.
